Fortunately, Basserie St Jacques is a slick substitute, offering the same well-heeled locals fabulous French fare between four decadently decked-out walls.

Fortunately, so was Gunpowder, and we were lucky enough to skip the queue outside, duck beneath the velvet ropes and head downstairs into a neon-lit world of heady glamour.
