Bleeding Love![]() Despite having everything working against it - sequels are notoriously bad, and it's been a fair while since Lloyd-Webber wrote anything truly spectacular - Love Never Dies is simply showstopping. Sticking to classical styling rather than anything contemporary, everything from the set and costumes through to the narrative and song choices adheres to the theatre of yesteryear, and the musical is a must-see for anyone with a touch of thesp in their blood; the melodrama comes thick and fast, with passion from the off-set and following through until the explosive, somewhat shocking conclusion. The Phantom is back, of course, in full masked splendour, while Christine, the love of his tortured life, flits across the stage with as much grace as the first time round. Our hearts haven't forgotten how much we believed in these characters, and the show makes us wait a good couple of hours before finally revealing their fates. As you can imagine, it's tragedy tinged with a beautiful bittersweet edge - but satisfying, nevertheless. Showing at London's much-loved Adelphi Theatre, Love Never Dies proves that indeed love does never die, and is sure to become the hottest ticket in town. www.loveneverdies.com / Images: Love Never Dies ![]() |
