Monkeying Around

The second venue to be opened by Vanity Fair editor-in-chief Graydon Carter - his first being the much-hyped Waverly Inn, still a celeb magnet four years after its opening in late 2005 - Monkey Bar is en-route to becoming just as achingly fashionable as its predecessor. Together with hotelier Jeff Klein and restaurateurs Jeremy King and Chris Corbin, Carter's newest venture serves up style and substance in equal measures. Having enlisted the help of architect Basil Walter, there's something distinctly Bungalow 8 about the two tiers found inside, from the faux zebra skin rug that leads the way down to the sunken dining room to the Edward Sorel scenes that adorn one wall. Raised red banquettes, brass railings and subdued lighting also add to the scene, while the property's namesake monkey murals still decorate the bar. Larry Forgione acts as Executive Chef, serving high-end comfort food dishes such as Oysters Rockefeller, Nora's Meatloaf and Sticky Toffee Pudding. This is one reservation you don't skip.
