On Your Mark![]() Launching in October 2009, Gucci will tour a flash sneaker store across the globe, starting with New York and moving on to fashion hotspots such as Miami, London, Berlin, Paris, Hong Kong and Tokyo. To coincide with this, creative director Frida Giannini has hooked up with music maestro Mark Ronson to create a collection of limited-edition sneakers. While Ronson is more about London cool than Milan chic, Giannini obviously saw superstar style written all over him as Italian fashion houses such as Gucci are notoriously picky. And, as they say, in Gucci we must trust! Giannini said of Mark; "From the moment I first sat down with Mark we connected. He has a great eye for design and an amazing knowledge of sneaker history. He is an artist whose influence is cross-cultural and cross-generational." At each new store opening a new sneaker will be unveiled, with designs incorporating classic Gucci signatures such as the 'GG' logo together with stylised versions of the brand's iconic red and green detailing. Mark said; "I spent many many years as an avid sneaker collector, so I wanted to make sure these Gucci shoes were truly special, both from an aesthetic point of view and a collectable one. Frida and I also agreed it was important for there to be a unique musical element to the project, so I’m going to be collaborating with artists, making limited edition tracks for each store opening." If that's not an incentive to go out and splurge on a new pair of Ones and Twos, we don't know what is! www.gucci.com / Images: Gucci ![]() |
