Civil Partnership![]() Known for his groundbreaking product design, Philippe Starck's fixtures, fittings and furnishings fill hotels and homes the world over. But that's not enough for the ambitious French creative. With his latest project, Starck hopes to fill the catwalk, too, though he is at pains to call his collaboration with Ballantyne 'fashion'. He says; "It's not fashion. We won't be very big in the newspapers. The clothes are non-photogenic... And fashion has a very high speed of turnover. It produces energy, material, waste, and gives birth to a system of consumption and over-consumption which has no future." Instead, Starck wanted to create a collection that would last, using all-natural materials and a high-level of crafstmanship. And that's where Ballantyne comes in; founded 88 years ago in Scotland, the traditional brand was favoured by the likes of Jackie O back in its heyday, but was in desperate need of rejuvenation. So the two entities came together to produce S+arck with Ballantyne, a collection that will be launched at the Ballantyne shop in Notting Hill in October. Described by Starck as "sexy, intelligent and timeless', the collection is composed of 30 pieces for men and 30 pieces for women, many of which will be multi-functional. Die-hard Aesthetes are sure to go Starck-raving mad over it. www.starck.com & www.ballantyne.it / Images: Philippe Starck
