Graphic Matter![]() Nobody could accuse Peter Funch of keeping a low profile; in fact, his powerful images have snagged him coverage in some of the world's hottest magazines (Gunpowder included, of course), and his profile in the industry is on the rise. While other works by the New York-based photographer have been highly praised, including 'Babel Tales' and 'Red Rush', it seems that nobody knows quite what to think of his 'Crash' series; indeed, if one looks through his online portfolio, 'Crash' sticks out like a gruesome horror movie in thie middle of a collection of comedies. Despite its awkward positioning in his backlog, however, 'Crash' is integral to Funch's prominence as a photographer. Deeply disturbing, the series comprises 11 brutal images. While two photos are simply city shots, the others range from the inside of a wreckage to a dead pregnant women. It's not easy viewing, that's for sure, and the photos come with a stark warning; "chapter contains extremely graphic images." Raw and somewhat ruthless, the images show just how far some people will go to get a shot, and remind us of the paparazzi who chased Princess Diana in her final hours. Whether you think Funch's extreme work is sensationalist tripe or powerful photography, one thing's for certain; nobody could accuse 'Crash' of not soliciting opinion. www.peterfunch.com / Images: Peter Funch |
