Gold Rush

According to D&G, the restaurant's gold concept isn't about money and luxury; rather, the colour is used because of its 'upbeat' and 'sunny' connotations. Yeah, right. While we're sure the talented pair's intentions were honourable, a restaurant that has more gilded gold in its interiors than in the Elton John's own boudoir is never going to be an exercise in understated elegance. Instead, this restaurant is like something you'd stumble across in Dubai, with gold dripping off everything from the furniture to the floor. Sexy, yes, but subtle it certainly is not! Aside from sleek marble floors, shiny tables you can see your reflection in and Dallas-style chandeliers in the main restaurant, the bathrooms are pretty damn spectacular, too; golden bamboo and oversized mirrors are fixed to the walls, while golden trays (for soap, hopefully) adorn the marble counters. The best bit, however, is the flat-screen plasma TV screens in every stall, each playing 'Goldfinger' on a loop. Genius! Food-wise, Gold serves up some lipsmackingly good Italian cuisine upstairs in its formal restaurant, while the downstairs bistro is open for lunch. Meanwhile, those who want nothing more than liquid refreshments will find booze and more in the adjoining cocktail bar and coffee room. Ostentatious, outrageous and completely over-the-top, Gold is everything Gunpowder approves of and so much more - it's no wonder the likes of Paris Hilton, Kylie Minogue and Gisele Bundchen have swiped their, er, Gold cards here.
