Just An Illusion
As with most things in the desert, things aren't exactly what they seem, and this delightful Prada boutique is no exception. While it's not exactly a mirage, it isn't a fully-functional store, either; in fact, it's a sculpture masquerading as a shop, erected by none other than Scandinavian artists Michael Elmgreen and Ingar Dragset. You can just imagine the disappointment on pedestrian's faces as they realise that the entrance is sealed, or that there is no way for them to spend their hard-earned money on gorgeous designer duds! Completely isolated from its usual urban location, the Prada 'boutique' is found along Highway 90 between the small West Texan towns of Valentine and Marfa. With an increasing number of culture vultures seeking out art in the area, the installation makes perfect sense. Although it was created back in 2005, we've only just caught wind of it and thought it was still worth a mention. You know, just in case you're in the area.
