Located in Holborn, Tanaka's stylish eatery was designed by internationally-renowned United Designers and features trails of hand-strung pearls, polished walnut and marble surroundings, leather upholstery and breathtaking chandeliers. The pearl theme carries through to the bar, too, where martinis and other cocktails are served on beautiful tables inlaid with mother of pearl. As you'd expect from the same design team behind Nobu and The Metropolitan, the interior is opulent, over-the-top and oh-so-sexy - but not unmatched by the mouthwateringly good food. The menu is a heady mix of contemporary and traditional French cuisine, with only the best seasonal ingredients used in each dish. Starters include plates such as caramelised scallops, torellini of beef cheeks and smoked duck with foie gras, while main courses include salt-crusted venison, roast leg of partridge and braised monkfish. There is also a specially-designed wine cellar packed with the finest vintages for those on a liquid-only diet. As authentic as any Parisian restaurant with a distinct international flavour, Pearl has become a firm Gunpowder favourite.
