Soul Sisters
Having worked his magic for prolific publications such as Vogue, Harper's Bazaar and French Revue, as well as working on advertising campaigns for Replay, Boucheron and Moschino, Le Goués is no stranger to working a camera. Nevertheless, Soul is arguably his greatest accomplishment to date, a glossy book featuring prominent black models such as Naomi Campbell, Iman, Karen Alexander, Kiara Kabukuri and Lauren Pascale. Showcasing the beauty of dark skin, the monochromatic series is both sexy and dramatic, exhibiting Le Goués' talent to full effect. Le Goués said of his book: "Soul is an homage to my medium, which is the models who are my inspiration." Covering his models in greasepaint and shooting them against stark backgrounds, Le Goués highlights the sculptural elements of their sensual forms, with many of the women looking more like stone statues than bodies composed of flesh and blood. A beautiful tome for any coffee table, Soul is a step in the right direction for a race largely unrepresented in the world of high-fashion. Perhaps now Naomi Campbell will have a reason to smile.
