Lady, Hear Me Tonight
As a native New Yorker, it's hardly surprising to learn that Lady GaGa is inspired by theatre, fashion and pop. After dropping out of a New York university and quitting a brief stint as a Go-Go dancer, Lady GaGa began her mission to revive pop music and bring back the glory days of Britney Spears, N'Sync and, God forbid, New Kids on the Block. So the young popstrel started writing music, with her songs eventually being picked up by the likes of the Pussycat Dolls. Now Lady GaGa is set to hit the stage herself, with the release of her forthcoming album, The Fame. Lady GaGa said of her career move; "What has been lost in pop music these days is the combination of the visual and the imagery of the artist, along with the music - and both are just as important. So, even though the carefree nature of the album is something that people are latching onto right away about my stuff, I hope they will take notice of the interactive, multimedia nature of what I'm trying to do. The things I like to do and the theatrics, I like to incorporate them into the choreography. With my music, it's a party, it's a lifestyle, and it's about making the lifestyle the forefront of the music." Her passion for fashion and theatrics is no less obvious than in the video for her first single, Just Dance. Having teamed up with Akon, the video is at once eclectic and fashion-centric, teamed with a single that references the dance scene of 70s New York. Camp and cool, Lady GaGa will have Madonna and Gwen Stefani shaking in their overpriced heels.
