Red Hot
Built into a historic building in the Gaslamp Quarter, you'd drive right by the Keating Hotel if it wasn't for the vivid scarlet awnings that tie around the building like a stylish Prada belt. Fortunately, we are in on San Diego's best-kept secret, and we know that behind the 1890s red-brick lies a four-storey, 35-room boutique beauty. With a head-turning design characterised by Pininfarina's signature clean, ergonomic style, and staff so efficient you'd be forgiven for thinking they were installed with Ferrari engines, this haute hotel is perfect for visitors looking for a slice of style with their stay. As you'd expect of the Italian powerhouse, the rooms are finished to the highest standard, with Frette linen, Bang & Olufsen sound systems, plasma TVs, DVD players, LavAzza expresso machines and Dornbracht bathroom fixtures. While there may not be an in-house restaurant, with rooms this gorgeous we doubt you'll be wanting to venture out anyway. Fusing car culture with slick city hospitality, the Keating Hotel is miles ahead of its competition.
