Together with the Rezidor Hotel Group, Missoni is kick-starting its foray into the hospitality industry with two key properties, one in Edinburgh, Scotland, and the other in Kuwait City, Kuwait, both of which are set to open sometime next year. According to the Rezidor Hotel Group, both hotels will demonstrate "a strong interest in design, an appreciation of detail, an understanding of food and wine, a belief in authenticity, a cognizance of culture from a contemporary point of view, and a strong and equitable set of social values." Jeez, the hotel group's PR department clearly isn't one for brief summaries! Although both hotels will embody the style and sophistication that has become Missoni's signature, they will differ in who they cater for; Hotel Missoni Edinburgh will cater strictly for the business traveller, with a more subdued silver and black colour palette, while Hotel Missoni Kuwait City will cater for the leisure-seeker with a more flamboyant tone. From the renderings published so far, however, designs for both projects appear to stay true to Missoni's famous zig-zag patterns, with distinct styles and sleek modern furnishings. It all looks so gorgeous, in fact, we wouldn't be surprised if first-time guests peeled off wallpaper and stole sheets to make their own clothing lines with back home (we certainly wouldn't be able to resist stuffing Missoni-branded towels into our Louis Vuitton suitcases before check-out!). Spreadheading the exciting project, of course, is none other than Missoni's larger-than-life creative director Rosita Missoni, who'll work in conjunction with Milan-based designers Matteo Thun & Partners. Rezidor's president of brands, Gordon McKinnon, said: "Rezidor are thrilled to have this opportunity to work with Rosita and the Missoni family. Rosita's passion, flair and truly international design aesthetic have helped make Missoni a household name. By harnessing Rosita's remarkable ability to define a distinctive, fashionable yet timeless look, I firmly believe that Hotel Missoni will raise the bar compared with existing fashion boutique hotels, and create a hotel genre with lasting, international appeal." In total, ten hotels are scheduled to be built over the next five years, with each hotel's design inspired by their location. We, for one, can't wait to check-in and check them out.
