Mr & Mrs Smith

Pure & Simple

Formerly the site of a 19th-century water-purifying centre in Puebla, La Purificadora is arguably the most striking property to come out of Grupo Habita’s portfolio of boutique beauties. Fusing the historic beauty of the location with the austere modernity conceived by architects Legorreta + Legorreta, the inland hotel is caught between two time periods. And it works, with the original stone-and-stucco façade of the exterior juxtaposed against the black lava staircase and purple banquets found inside. Comprising 26 bedrooms, all with transparent cupboards and floor-to-ceiling glass walls facing the 16th-century church of St. Francis, La Purificadora is stylish without scrimping on substance. 14 of the lavish rooms even have their own glass-walled balconies, with Room A boasting a transparent Jacuzzi for couples who like to be watched. Aside from suite dreams, guests will also be able to fill their boots at long communal tables in the ground-floor restaurant, where chef Enrique Olvera conjures up lipsmackingly good Mexican cuisine. And if that isn’t enough to get you through the heavy wooden doors of La Purificadora, then perhaps the infinity-edged pool on the roof terrace will seal the deal.
